Meet Our Advance Care Planning Volunteers!

  • Jayne Brechwald

Working with clients on their Advance Directives has been rewarding and Jayne often hears “I feel so relieved” once the document has been completed. Jayne feels this is important work and helps everybody to be prepared and clear about their wishes.

  • Kay Stern

For many years, Kay has worked for Hospice of Santa Barbara, doing patient care work and advance care planning counseling. She loves how patient care and advance care planning inform the work of each.

  • Shirley Strickler

Through her work with our community, Shirley feels she has a new appreciation for her own life and her family and support system. Particularly dealing with clients completing their Advance Directives, where she comes across so many people who have no one, she feels very fortunate to know that her family is there for her.

  • Sue Willner

It’s a long way from the Bronx to Santa Barbara. On the way, through a 55+ year marriage, two children, three grandchildren, a rewarding healthcare career, and 6 years of volunteering for Get It Done SB!, Sue Willner has learned several valuable tenets.

  • Judy Bartlein

Through her 9+ years volunteering, Judy has helped many clients (including some colorful characters) at the end of their lives. She says her experiences have led her to be more thoughtful in her life, by not being so quick to respond to things and trying to be a good listener. Judy also came to the realization that although problems often can’t be fixed, it’s a gift to be present for our clients and let them lead the conversation.
